Media Production & Technology Show our final take on the event.

With the abundance of trade shows taking place at present it is difficult to pay homage to all of them, rather like a London bus, we haven’t seen one for ages, then all at once three come along almost simultaneously!

All three shows have been excellent and worthy of far more coverage than we have been able to afford them. However our very own shows in London have the of a feel of a family reunion for the Broadcast Industry, this is without doubt true for both BSC and MPTS. So we have chosen to focus most our efforts on telling the story of these two great British events.

So lets focus our attention on some more of the great exhibitors we met at MPTS 2022

ATG Danmon highlighted its full range of systems integration services at MPTS. These include consultancy, project planning, workflow design, system installation, testing and commissioning, documentation, training and technical support. Recent months have proved busy for the company with the completion of a large-scale upgrade to the news production and editing resources at the headquarters of Alaraby Television in London’s Park Royal. Among projects currently nearing completion are a UHD studio and control room relocation for a leading European specialist in social media content production. Work is also in progress at a major Britain’s university, sustaining ATG Danmon’s long experience in the higher education sector as well as the broadcast mainstream.

“We promoted our proven experience in both hardware and software systems integration, designing and installing high quality production infrastructure, operator-efficient camera robotics and virtual studios as well as presentation and playout,” says Jonathan Hughes. “We have also proved our skills in mobile production vehicle design, delivering powerful creative facilities in a highly space-efficient structure. Whether for SDI, IP or hybrid environments, we can advise impartially at the initial planning stage and turn customer aspirations into effective solutions with a long working life, plus any required degree of post-installation support.”

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions showcased its extensive range of services and products for the broadcast and wider television industry. Centrepiece of the exhibit was an optical camera tracking system comprising a Mo-Sys StarTracker, Mo-Sys VP Pro XR server and Bendac infiLED panels. CJP demonstrated a complete solution including the new Cinematic XR Focus Pull, Multi-Camera Switching and Digital Tracking with Brompton Technology 4K LED screen processors. Among recent Mo-Sys projects completed by CJP was a 4K-UHD virtual studio for the University of Sunderland. Installed at the university’s David Puttnam Media Centre, the resource gives students the opportunity to gain practical experience in latest-generation virtual studio production techniques.

“The broadcast and wider media business is in healthy resurgence following the market distortion caused by two years of lockdown,” says CJP Managing Director Chris Phillip. “We are experiencing strong demand from the broadcast, corporate and university sectors where the high efficiency and creative flexibility of virtual studio systems are increasingly being recognised. We will also be promoting our proven skills in live sports production and archive digitisation.”

DHD.audio exhibited the latest additions to its range of digital audio studio equipment and systems at MPTS. Highlights of the DHD exhibit, with distribution partner Thum + Mahr, were the new DX2 space-efficient new desktop mixing console, new core processors optimised for IP device control and audio-over-IP, and Version 10 latest-generation firmware.

“DHD’s strategy is to offer the features studios need in a form which is easy to install, efficient to operate, physically compact and highly reliable,” says Christoph Gottert, Head of International Sales. “Our systems are based on compact desktop consoles with integral displays that take the stress out of live production by showing exactly what operators need to know, from audio levels right through to assignable-control configurations. That approach has made our systems highly successful throughout the broadcast audio production market.”

On the Big Pic Media stand, broadcast test instruments from Leader Electronics formed the signal evaluation core of an end-to-end 4K HDR post-production workflow demonstration. An industry-respected resource for production, post-production, broadcast and media products and services, Big Pic Media advises on and supplies solutions ranging in scale from individual items to fully integrated suites.

“Presentations of this kind are extremely useful as they give existing and potential customers the opportunity to experience the latest technology as part of fully operational system,” says Kevin Salvidge,” Sales Engineering Manager at Leader Europe. “4K HDR is capable of delivering hugely impressive quality if handled correctly from the point of capture and onward through the editing and shading stages. Adam Welsh and his BPM colleagues demonstrated a complete 4K HDR workflow from onset dailies through to quality control and mastering of the final deliverable. The demo system included a Leader LV5350 waveform monitor and LV7600 rasterizer. The LV5350 is well established among DITS as the instrument of choice for on-set production as provides all the tools they need for high-grade signal measurement in a robust portable unit. The LV7600 rasterizer is similarly popular in post suites creating content for satellite and terrestrial broadcasters as well as the rapidly growing OTT sector. A key advantage of Leader test solutions is that operators can coordinate with the same suite of tools across the entire product range. This ensures that the DIT, the colorist and the post editor are looking at exactly the same images throughout the project, within a customisable unified GUI.”

OOONA demonstrated the latest refinements to its flagship OOONA Integrated media localization platform at MPTS 2022. Centres of attention on the OOONA stand OOONA were the OOONA Mobile App, an expanded user interface now available in 12 languages, support for Japanese timed text editing, plus a host of API integrations to management systems and language technology platforms from selected partners.

“Localization turnaround times are becoming shorter than ever to accommodate the need for speed to market, while the content volume that requires localization continues to expand” comments OOONA CEO Wayne Garb. “The ability to scale quickly in a secure environment is the top requirement from our clients, while integrations with third party platforms to streamline workflows further were the hot topic of the event.”
